2017 Fryeburg Fair - Oh Wow!

My favorite Maine agricultural fair has always been the Fryeburg Fair. It has been held each year since 1851 in Fryeburg, Maine. (The fair was first held in March 1851). It has grown to become Maine's largest agricultural fair. This year we took my almost 92 year old mom in her wheel chair. It was Tuesday – senior day. It was so nice to have complimentary handicapped parking. We were a group of 4 – my mom, me and her 2 primary in home care givers. (Mom lives with us and her caregivers come to the house.) It was a beautiful, sunny fall day in Maine. The air was crisp and there was a hum of activity all around us. Excited fair goers walked and ran to the ticket booth entrance. We entered the “Orange Gate” near the display of antique wagons. Then we moved quickly to the barns with the pigs, goats and the antique tractor pull out back. One of the sows farrowed out on October 1. (Meaning she gave birth to a set of piglets.) It reminded me of my days at UConn, working my way through my Aggie graduate degree and taking care of sheep, pigs and cows. The pigs were my favorites back then. The goats at the fair this day were funny and engaging. But the poultry house was the best.
